Money Can't Buy You Love - But It Can Buy You A Molar
14 November 2011
Look after your teeth they could be the key to your legacy…
News hit this week that the molar of the late Beatles member John Lennon sold at auction for an impressive £19,000 - a significant increase on the hourly rate for the average tooth fairy that's for sure.
The story behind how the famous singer/songwriter lost the tooth has never been revealed but it came to be auctioned after Lennon gave the tooth to his former housekeeper Dot Jarlett in the 1960s. It was intended that she would get rid of the tooth but decided to keep it as a gift for her daughter who was a massive fan of The Beatles instead.
While the tooth is too fragile to undergo DNA testing to determine whether it really does belong to the pop legend, experts believe it to be credible due to its connection with Mrs Jarlett.
One thing is for certain though, it is most probably one of the world's most expensive molars and reinforces the importance of looking after you teeth as you never know yours might one day be worth as much as this.
The identity of the new owner has not been revealed but rumour has it that a dentist inCanadais the lucky recipient. We don't quite have the budget for this type of memorabilia here at Lubiju, but it did get us thinking about which celebrity molars we would most like to get our hands on!
Ultimately for us it would be the golden girl of Hollywood Marilyn Monroe - steeped in history; hers was probably one of the finest smiles to grace to the screen and would be the ultimate piece of movie memorabilia. Other gnashers we wouldn't mind getting our hands on are Elvis Presley's, members of the royal Family and any famous footballers - we're sure they would fetch a buck or two!
