Lubiju has teamed up with a physiotherapy expert to provide an innovative new treatment.

Dental professionals regularly adopt and develop techniques to treat patients whether it's within cosmetic or preventative dentistry.

Sometimes we have to look beyond the boundaries of our own professional techniques and into ways we can utilise the skills employed in other medicinal areas to provide optimum results.

One such case study is bruxism - a condition caused by involuntary grinding of the teeth and clenching of the jaw.

Amongst the most common symptoms are migraines and in an effort to relieve sufferers we have teamed up with anEdinburgh based physiotherapy expert Kirsten Lord to create a dedicated Migraine Relief Clinic.

At Lubiju, we treat patients by fitting them with an NTI (Nociceptive Trigminal Inhibitation) Splint, as well as a course of physiotherapy treatments which help open up the jaw and reduce stress.

The dental splints relieve pain by helping improve the position of each patient's jaw joint - known as the TMJ (temporomandibular joint) - and reducing stress elsewhere in their jaw.

Pain Free and Effective Treatments

Studies have shown that the NTI splint fitted here at Lubiju is highly successful in decreasing jaw stresses and reducing migraine pain attacks by up to 75 percent in 75 percent of its users.

So far the treatment program has been extremely successful we have treated over 250 patients, who have all seen significant improvements as a result.

Recent figures released by leading charity Migraine Action highlight that one in seven people in theUKsuffer from migraines. However, a large number of these sufferers are unaware that stress, jaw clenching, anxiety and teeth grinding related to Bruxism can be the actual source of their pain.

Here at Lubiju we're committed to adopting and developing emerging techniques in cosmetic dentistry and hope we can continue on our path of helping patients with alternative and effective methods of treatment.
